Who Is Jessie Montague?

Formerly a senior stylist at Le Shag in Kingston NY, Jessie had to pivot her business quickly in March 2020 when Covid arrived. She spent her time in quarantine home schooling her kids and transforming a space in the back of her home into her own private hair studio She opened her doors on June 9, 2020 and hasn’t looked back since.

Along with Dry Cutting Jessie developed an appreciation and affinity for the art of Balayage, and became enamored with both the process and the results of this French hair painting technique. She considers this form of highlighting to be one of the best ways to bring out the natural beauty of anyone’s hair. Balayage and foilayage, are both artful approaches for simple highlighting, intense lightening and for grey blending.

Jessie thinks of her work with clients as a co-creation. “I’m forming a special relationship with someone and I’m learning about their hair both past and present. I usually ask a lot of questions in the beginning to understand the client’s needs, what their lifestyle is, and what is going to be the easiest for them in terms of up-keep. The client knows their hair best, and my job is to really listen and work with the individual to find the best style for them or to maintain a style that they already love.”

When Jessie is not doing hair she is enjoying time with her two teen age kids (sometimes 😊) and playing guitar, writing and recording her music. Www.jessieleemontague.com

Dry Cutting

Dry cutting is a unique approach to haircutting that works with the hair “as it lives” without a lot of manipulation from hot tools and heavy styling products. Dry cutting is wonderful for all hair types and can be especially suited for curly and wavy hair.

During her years at Le Shag, Jessie also studied the art of Balayage and became enamored with the process and the results of this french hair painting technique. She considers this form of highlighting to be one of the best ways to bring out the natural beauty of anyone’s hair. Balayage and foilayage are both artful approaches for simple highlighting or for grey blending.

Jessie thinks of her work with clients as a co-creation. “I’m forming a special relationship with someone, and I’m learning about their hair, both past, and present. I usually ask a lot of questions in the beginning to understand the client’s needs, what their lifestyle is, and what is going to be the easiest for them in terms of up-keep.” The client knows their hair best, and Jessie is open enough and has the ability to listen and work with the client to find the best style for them.

When Jessie is not doing hair, she is enjoying time with her two teenage kids and spends any free time playing guitar, writing, and recording her music. Visit www.jessieleemontague.com
